Afternoon rush
Its noon time and the coffee shop is packed with people coming from their last class and hurrying to get coffee before their next class. The line of students and teachers waiting patiently to order their beverages and snacks is beginning to wrap around the already crowded room. More students come rushing in and realize the size of the line and with discouraged faces walk away. The baristas behind the counter are hurrying as fast as they can to keep up with the hoards of people. They run back and forth behind the counter making coffees, teas and bagels sometimes spilling a few drops of coffee not stopping to pick them up. People’s names are being shouted constantly for their drinks to be picked up. It is quite loud in here however you can still here parts of others conversations. Some students are just meeting others for the first time, trying to get to know one another over a cup of coffee and others I believe have known each other for quite some time. Some sit in their corner comfy chair reading a magazine and listening to their music trying to escape the chaos that is around them at this busy hour. As the line starts to die down you can see the relief come over the baristas tired faces. The once busy coffee shop is now a quiet peaceful area.
The sexual politics of meat: A feminist vegetarian critical theory by carol adams
Through the kitchen window by Arlene Avakian
Holy Anorexia By Rudolph Bell
Fat talk by Mimi Nichter
These four reading s stood out to me for different reasons. I find diets and eating disorders interesting so holy anorexia and fat talk seemed to cover that quite well. I also am a vegetarian so the reading on vegetarianism stood out as well. The title “ Through the Kitchen Window” stood out to me because I do believe that if you look at someone’s kitchen it can tell a lot about that person.
